Kotilingeshwara temple Kolar – History, Timings, How to reach
The Kotilingeshwara Temple is in a small village called Kammasandra in the Kolar district. This temple has been constructed by Swami Sambha Shiva Murthy and his wife V.Rukmini in the year 1980. This temple is well-known because it has the biggest Shivalinga in Asia, which is also the tallest. Every year, over 200,000 devotees come to visit this temple.
Maha Shivaratri is a special day, and many devotees try to be at the temple on that important occasion. It’s not hard to get to the temple from the gold fields of Kolar.
The Shivalinga is really tall, measuring 33 meters. It’s the tallest one in the whole world! There’s also a big statue of a Basava next to it, which is 11 meters tall. Around the area, there are many more Shivalingas.
The whole project aims to set up one crore Shivalingas, that’s why it’s called Kotilingeshwara. Right now, there are about a hundred lakh Shivalingas.
There are many temples in the area. Some of them are the Goddess Annapoorneshwari Temple, Goddess Karumaari Amma Temple, Lord Venkataramani Swamy Temple, Lord Subramanya Swamy Temple, Lord Panduranga Swamy Temple, Temple for Lord Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana, Lord Panchamukha Ganapathy Temple, Lord Anjaneya Temple, and Goddess Kannika Parameshwari Temple.

- Beautiful place to worship lord Shiva…. U will get to see many other god temple. Due to COVID there is no too much rush.. within 10 min u will get darshan. Entry fee is 20rs..
- Nice place for worship, take your time and roam around the temple premises. Avoid visiting during afternoon time in summers. There will be too much crowd and hot humid conditions. Keep yourself hydrated. It tends to get hot due to the dry conditions.
